The ‘Story of Gardens’ is an innovative educational resource developed for the European Garden Heritage Network (EGHN) by the South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL) in conjunction with Somerset County Council.
Although primarily designed for schools, it is a fascinating introduction for anyone with an interest in gardens. It complements the EGHN's Garden Themes and Regional Routes which looks at other European gardens.
The full EGHN Education Report (coming soon!) is full of garden education ideas and resources for garden education for with much useful material (including downloads) for teachers.
The original English text was written for the EGHN by Ed Bennis, Director of the Research Center for Landscape, Manchester Metropolitan University.
It is divided into eleven sections and corresponds to the Website 'The Story of Gardens in Europe'.
It gives additional information and a broader context intended for the teacher or independent researcher, and it supplements the 'Themes' of the EGHN http://www.imaginethegarden.co.uk/
The pages can be used and printed for educational purposes only.
